Ninety Nine Vs One
It has been often the headline news in the television and in news papers for a month or two. In the beginning I didn't know, I didn't understand and I didn't care about it. Slowly and gradually I started to get in it and my professor Silvia Straka has come as a steering to drive me straight in to the burning fire!
Occupy Winnipeg is the solidarity movement to the Occupy Wall Street Protest started in New York on September 17, 2011 against the social and economic inequality, high unemployment, greed, as well as corruption, and the undue influence of financial corporations on government. Marching with the slogan of "We are the 99%", the demonstrators are camping in front of the legislative building through out different cities in the world .
There are a lot of information now I have about this movement that I am getting hard to find a proper order to mention about. The moment I entered the Occupy Winnipeg camp remains always memorable and it is the entrance to the whole intellectual awareness in my life. Though I did not talk a lot in that "come and talk" meeting, I got to know more than enough that inspired me to see the world and the self through a different perspective. Economic structure of the world and the distribution of the resources is full of biases that the one percent are always getting dominant to ninety nine percent of us, that is just one issue. There is a sea in front.
Looking through the poverty group perspective, it is found to be far more supportive and advocating to the mass who possess nothing. It is obvious that if we are able to mitigate this alarming disparity in the economic resources, poverty will be a a word in dictionary in the near future. Like the protestors say that democracy is in deep trouble caused by the overwhelming greed and corruption, we need to think about this before it is going to be too late.
I am surprised to see that the world governments including Canada, U.S.A, Switzerland or where ever the demonstration spreading in a dramatic speed, encountering with force, violence and atrocity to the peaceful protest for the rights of ninety nine percent! We have seen in the news that in Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal and many other Canadian and world cities, the police brutality to the innocent people asking for the right rights. The government wants all the protesters to go back and they are actually "going home" in December 6, 20ll.
